Student Research Symposium

The annual Student Research Symposium (SRS) organized by the New Haven Local Section of the American Chemical Society is established as a premier opportunity for young scientists in our area to present the results of their research studies in a professional and supportive environment. As well as providing experience for researchers of the future to prepare scientific presentations and communicate their accomplishments, the event offers an opportunity for all members of the local chemistry community to learn about the outstanding research that is being carried out at institutions in our area.

The symposium will involve the participation of students from academic institutions in the New Haven area, such as University of New Haven, Southern Connecticut State University, Quinnipiac University, Albertus Magnus College, and Yale University. Students will present the details of their studies that are directed towards undergraduate, masters, and graduate degrees. There will both oral and poster presentations. The universities and colleges mentioned above are the proud homes to many students participating in research projects sponsored by the institutions, industry and government, and typically there are presentations on a wide range of topics, including pharmaceuticals, nanotechnology, analytical chemistry, forensics, biochemistry, polymer science, green chemistry, and sustainability.

The 9th Annual SRS will be held at Yale University, and we look forward to the 10th Annual SRS in Spring 2026!!

Symposium Guidelines

For student oral presenters:

Register and submit an abstract for the symposium by April 4, 2025, 11:59pm.
If your abstract is accepted for an oral presentation, you will be contacted via email for more details.
Submit your final slides by April 25, 2025, 12:00pm.
Talks are 15 minutes, followed by ~5 minutes of audience Q&A moderated by the organizers.

For student poster presenters:

Register and submit an abstract for the symposium by April 4, 2025, 11:59pm.
If your abstract is accepted for a poster presentation, you will be contacted via email for more details.
The poster session will be ~1 hour 15 minutes. A poster board and easle will be provided.
Be ready to answer questions from judges during the poster session!
