LECTURER AND INSTRUMENTATION SPECIALIST: CHEMISTRY - Information here

The Union College Department of Chemistry invites applications for a Lecturer/Instrumentation Specialist beginning in 2024. Successful candidates for this non-tenure-track faculty position will have a Ph.D. in chemistry or closely related field, significant breadth of experience with chemical instrumentation, and the potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching. Teaching responsibilities will be primarily in laboratory courses in introductory, organic and analytical chemistry. The College has an exceptional suite of advanced instrumentation, and the successful candidate will have a reduced teaching load to accommodate co-curricular responsibilities, including maintenance of the Department’s instrumentation for teaching and research, training of faculty members and students in the use of instrumentation, and working with other faculty to develop new instrumentation-based experiments for laboratory courses. This is a three-year, renewable position. The expected salary range for this position is $67,000 - $69,000, commensurate with experience. ANALYTICAL MASS SPECTROSCOPY POSITION - Unilever

Unilever has a position in the Applied Measurement Science Laboratory of the North American Personal Care and Beauty and Wellbeing Technology Centre in Trumbull, Connecticut. The individual will be focused on our regulatory compliance testing program, ensuring the integrity and safety of our products via the analysis of ingredients of concern and trace contaminants using LC/MS/MS and GC/MS. They will have experience in the identification of unknowns using chromatographic and mass spectral techniques and have excellent mass spectral interpretation skills. A working knowledge of Mass Hunter, Analyst, SCIEX OS, MassLynx, OpenLab, and/or Excalibur is desirable. An awareness of Federal and State regulatory guidelines and the corresponding test methodology, namely FDA, EPA, ASTM, ISO, or EU procedures is a plus. Ideally, they will have an extensive track record of method development and validated methods through publications or SOPs. The individual will be responsible for sourcing the required standards, which may involve custom syntheses, and coordinating the internal and external contract lab testing program. They must have excellent leadership and communication skills to present to an Industrial and Regulatory organization and the interpersonal skills to work within a fast-paced team environment that requires the ability to handle multiple demands. A strong background in analytical chemistry is required.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Mass spectral and chromatographic analysis of trace contaminants; Method development; Sample preparation; Method transfer; Problem solving; Trouble shooting; Reporting and presenting findings with clear recommendations.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS: A Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry or a MSc with at least three years experience or a BSc with at least 6 years of experience in problem solving using mass spectroscopy for trace analysis, as well as a demonstrated ability in the development and validation of analytical methods to meet FDA, HC and ICH guidelines. Analytical skills must include LC/MS/MS and GC/MS analysis with a familiarity of GPC and IC. Hands-on experience with a working knowledge of instrument maintenance and calibration is necessary. A working knowledge of LIMS databases (ideally LabVantage) and using Power BI or Excel spreadsheets to trend and track quality data, including the ability to evaluate the data statistically, is required. Familiarization with statistical software like JMP, SPSS, computer programming like Python, R, and Matlab is a plus. The role has a strong emphasis on technical documentation and communication, generating comprehensive cross-technique technical reports, and making clear recommendations that are implemented in the business. They will also represent Unilever Measurement at Supplier and Industrial task force meetings. A proven track record in trace contaminant analysis is desirable.

Yale Chemistry ESI PREP Program - Info Here

The Yale Chemistry Department is seeking applicants to a one-year postbaccalaureate program designed for students from underrepresented groups to build research experience. We have teamed up with the ACS Bridge Program and the Yale Office of Graduate Student Development and Diversity to support multiple postbaccalaureate students from June 2022 through May 2023. Accepted students will receive a $32,000 stipend, health insurance, tuition for courses, a new laptop computer, and travel-related expenses. Each student works closely with faculty members and graduate students in laboratories that are doing world-leading research. In addition, students get involved in leadership, including the Professional Development Network to develop career opportunities, the Joint Safety Team to enhance lab safety, the Women in Science at Yale club, the local NOBCChE chaper, and the Diversity and Climate Committee who generates student-led initiatives like Diversity Movie Nights and a peer support group called the DEI Advocates.

Chemists in the Yale PREP program will mix with other postbaccalaureate students across science and humanities on the campus. This program starts in the summer, and features resume building, career workshops, preparation for graduate applications, as well as research and coursework. Yale PREP has a great track record of placing students into top programs.
